Illustration inspired by a passage from the book “Vence-demanda: Educação e Descolonização” by Luiz Rufino:

"Once, I was addressed by a caboclo. He handed me a leaf and said:
"My son, aren’t you going to sing the leaf so that it may be enchanted?"
I replied that I didn’t know the chant to awaken the spirit sleeping there.
He looked me in the eyes and said:
How come, my son, you don’t know? I’ve seen you sing for me so many times. I’ll chant once to see if you remember:
"The caboclo’s clothing is fern, it’s fern, it’s fern... come out, caboclo, don’t get tangled, come out from the middle of the fern..."
The caboclo asked me again: "Now you remember, right?"
I nodded my head confirming, and then he said:
"All this talk, young man, is to say that the leaf and the caboclo are one and the same thing."
